A Great Day!

As I sit here, typing this, I realize what a great day it's been...

It started off not so early this morning. It was about 8:30 am, and I was enjoying the quiet of my morning, still laying in bed, not asleep, just waking up. I thought Ellie Mae was still asleep, so I ever so slowly and lazily roused myself to get up. I opened my door and saw that both Ellie Mae and Molly's doors were open! I walked downstairs and all the girls were done eating and were cuddling on the couch, watching a movie. Such good sisters, these girls are!

I got the older 2 going on school, while the younger 2 colored, and we were done by 11 ish. Since then, I've just kinda hung out. Got some stuff done, messed around on the internet....all the important things in life.

It is currently 3:30 pm, and I am (still) in my pajama's. Bread is rising in the oven, hamburger soup in the slowcooker (which I didn't even have to make today - it's from the Big Cook we did a while ago). In other words, dinner is pretty much made! I will go and have a shower and get into clean pajamas, eat dinner and hang out with my man, just chill'axin'! Yup, a great day it is!

A night to Remember

Last night, it was cold. So cold! So in order to commiserate together, we decided to have a pajama/popcorn night. We came home from being in the city all day, got the girls showered and in their pj's, ordered Kung-Fu Panda on our pay-per-view, made some dinner (which was microwave popcorn), sat on the couch and cuddled while eating and watching a movie. It was a fantastic night! At one point, I remember thinking, "I didn't think I'd ever get here...no babies to nurse, I'm not pregnant, and the Girls are old enough that this is okay to do once in a while!" It was a most excellent night!

A Conversation

This is the conversation we had on the way to church...

Abby: (looking at her bible) "What is this picture of? It's a crazy guy with purple hair and a green robe?"

Hannah: "That's an angel of death."

Abby: "Mom, what's an angel of death?"

Me: "Ahhh....ask your dad." (I'm not really sure how to answer this in 6 yr. old terms!)

Abby: "Dad, what's an angel of death?"

Art: "We'll talk later about that..." (although, to come to his defence, Ellie Mae was yelling a bit!)

How random is this? And why does Hannah, my 8 yr. old say that it was a angel of death? I'm pretty sure she didn't get that from Little House on the Prairie (her books of choice these days)....so where did she read it? Her Bible?? Bizarre!

Pomegranates Part II

Recently, I wrote about pomegranates.... http://thegoerzengirls.blogspot.com/2008/11/pomegranates.html

And now I wanted to add a bit to that. I've been thinking a lot about that lately. I went to the passage again the other night to re-read it, and something new stuck with me...

Deut. 8:1 says, "Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and posses the land that the Lord promised..."

It struck me, because I sometimes forget that there are consequences for our actions. Just like my children, if they do not obey, sometimes, they lose privileges...so why wouldn't it be that way with God? We must obey Him today in order to move into what He has for us tomorrow.
Granted, He extends grace towards us, but I think we also have to 'do our part'...have a willing spirit to do what He has asked of us.

Just something that I've been pondering....

Craving

As a mother of 4, who homeschools and works from home, there are days when I CRAVE...quiet. Perhaps that's why I love 'alone time' so much....it's quiet! I love the feeling of knowing all my ladies are here at home, safe and sound, but they are somewhere else other than on top of me. Knowing that at this present moment, nothing is required of me, and I can just sit, in the quiet, and enjoy it! The only other time I 'hear' quiet during the day is when I'm in the shower, with the door locked and the fan turned on! :-)

Lately, I've been heading to bed early (well, earlier), just to be alone and ....yup, you guessed it...quiet! This is one thing that I envy in my friends who do not have kids yet... But I am pretty sure that they would tell you that they envy me in my chaos! I suppose part of it is being thankful in the season of life we are in. I am sure that when my girls are grown, I will look back on these days and wish for them again...wishing for the chaos instead of the quiet... Human nature, eh? Wanting what we don't have... As much as I crave quiet, I am thankful for my chaos...most days!

Wow!

I woke up this morning and came downstairs, looked outside, and my breath was taken away. It was incredibly beautiful! It was a little bit cloudy and foggy, but there was hoarfrost on everything! I took a picture, but of course, it didn't do it justice. All the trees have probably an inch of white on them...it's incredible! As I look outside, sitting in my comfy, warm house, I am once again awed by God. I wonder if he sometimes looks at His creation, and smiles, thinking, "Wow, I was good! I made that!" I know I sure think that....

Happy New Year!

A little belated, I know, but Happy New Year! As I keep on tying and erasing things, I can't quite seem to put into words the past year. It's been a year of growth for me personally, and I am thankful that God continues to guide me and direct me and reveal Himself to me...

As I look ahead to this upcoming year, the number 09 means to bring an end to. What does that mean for me? I want to examine the things God is calling me to bring to an end.... hmmm..... What has he called me to, personally, that I've been making excuses for not doing? Again....hmmm....

The rest of the story

So here's the last of the story of our trip to Kelowna....
We got up early Sunday morning to head home, so we would get home at a decent hour. We made pretty good time, even though the roads weren't great....until Valemont. About 1/2 hr. past Valemont, there was a long line up of cars stopped on the highway. Someone in front of us was turning around, so we rolled down our window to see what was up. Turns out there was a double fatality, and the highway was going to be shut down for abut 3 hrs. Right away, I thought we should turn around and go back to Valemont to get a room for the night. Art decided to get out and walk up a bit to see if he could get some more information. While we were talking, I watched 3 different people get out of their vehicles and bite it, because the road was a sheet of ice! Art carefully walked a bit further ahead and spoke with some truckers...they informed us that the RCMP had just radioed up, and highway was going to be closed for 8-10 hrs. Also, there was about 10 miles of cars stopped in front of us! Right away, we turned around and headed to Valemont. One our way back, we noticed that they had set up a highway worker about 10 miles back, and were telling people the road was closed, and more people were turning around behind us. We called ahead and found 1 room at a hotel, but when we drove up and saw the hotel, we though we'd see if we could find something else....it definitely left a little to be desired! So, I walked into the Super 8, and we got the last room there! Thank you, God!
The funny thing about the trip, though, is that I had been asking the Lord to see a moose.... When we walked into the lobby of the hotel, this is what I saw....

Not exactly the moose I was expecting to see, but I thanked the Lord, none the less... to me, it was a reminder that He has everything worked out. Another cool thing was that Art had been saying the whole drive that he would love to go in a hot tub that night. Guess what we did when we got to the hotel? Yup...go to the hot tub! Again, not what we were necessarily expecting, but so cool to see God look after both our needs (can you IMAGINE spending an extra 10 hrs. in a car on the highway not moving, and it being -20C outside with 4 kids?!), and our wants! To me, the favor of the Lord was written all over our drive home! Art also went to A&W to get some dinner for us, and he ordered and sat down to wait for his food, and then they announced that they were out of food (except chicken strips!). Crazy!!

We spent the night, got up early, and headed home. It was definitely nice to nap that afternoon, in our own beds! Thanks, Lord, for safety on the scary, slippery roads!
